Elections in River: voting until 20:30

The elections to decide the 25th. president of the history of River began this Saturday morning with 50,481 members authorized to vote in 80 tables distributed in different sectors of the Monumental stadium.

The candidates of the ruling party, before the departure of Rodolfo D ‘Onofrio, are Jorge Brito, vice president of the last two terms, Matías Patanian and the now general secretary of the club Ignacio Villarroel.

For the opposition there are three lists headed by Antonio Caselli along with former striker David Trezeguet, Carlos Trillo with Alex Cambell and Luis Belli with Alfredo Dávicce’s granddaughter, Dolores Pizarro.

For this election and for the first time in history, the lists had to respect the 20 percent quota for women, which ensures a strong presence of women in the next Board of Directors.

The electoral act, which was scheduled to begin at 10 in the morning, was delayed by almost 45 minutes and will take place until 8:30 p.m. Around 10 pm, the results will be known to be determined by the authorities to take on from December 10. In this link you can consult the register.

On the outskirts of the Monumental, a strong police operation was deployed on Figueroa Alcorta avenue due to the presence of the two brave bars of River that have had a confrontation for several years and that generated a lot of tension between threats and attempts of aggression that forced that the security operation intensified when people began to arrive to vote.

What is chosen?

The partners elect a board of directors that includes a president and two vice-presidents, 22 regular members and 16 alternate members, and a supervisory committee made up of 10 regular members and six alternate members.

In addition, the composition of the governing body of the club, the Members’ Assembly, which is made up of 150 regular representatives and 60 alternates, with a hundred for the winner and the rest distributed among the other lists as a percentage.

In the December 2017 election, D’Onofrio got 14,099 votes, with 74.70%, then Antonio Caselli was left, with 2,840 and 15.04%, third was Carlos Trillo with 1,414 votes and Leonardo Barujel closed the count with 471 votes.

D’Onofrio won the last two elections with a large majority after losing by 6 votes in 2009 to Daniel Passarella, who after relegation in 2011 did not run for reelection.

The last three-term administration was led by Dávicce, who, after winning the elections in 1989, stayed for two terms and then David Pintado, who had been his vice president, took office.

The progression of voter turnout in the last elections was 18,000 in 2013 and 18,000 in 2017, 14,000 in 2009, 7,579 votes in 2005, and 8,560 votes in 2001.

In the elections prior to the new millennium, which Dávicce won twice, 1989 and 1993, and Pintado in 1997, voters had a low turnout if measured with the present, since they ranged between 5,000 and 6,000 votes.
