Elderly man charged with femicide for killing daughter, injuring wife in Sarandí del Yí

An 88-year-old man from Sarandí del Yí has been charged with two counts of homicide, one of them in a tentative degree, after he killed his 55-year-old daughter and seriously injured his 81-year-old wife. The incident occurred at their home, where the elderly man was arrested and a revolver was seized. As a precautionary measure, he has been sent to pretrial detention for 120 days while the investigation continues.

Details of the Incident

The incident took place on Wednesday after 8:30 am, when local police received a call about gunshots at the residence. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the 81-year-old woman wounded and lying on the ground in an internal patio of the house. The 88-year-old man then appeared, wielding a revolver, and was promptly arrested.

Upon entering the house, police found the body of the 55-year-old daughter in one of the bedrooms. Medical staff confirmed her death at the scene. The injured woman was initially taken to a local hospital and later transferred to a private sanatorium for further treatment.

Investigation Ongoing

The Scientific Police has conducted a thorough investigation of the crime scene. Notably, the aggressor had no prior judicial record, and there were no previous police incidents reported involving the family, according to Germán Suárez, the Chief of Police of Durazno. The case is being prosecuted as a femicide, with one of the homicide charges in a tentative degree, highlighting the severity of the crime. The community awaits the outcome of the investigation, seeking justice for the victims and their loved ones.
