Elden Ring Nightreign Director Apologizes for Lack of Two-Player Mode at Launch

The release of Elden Ring Nightriegn is just around the corner. This standalone game packs a lot of new features, but one notable omission has left players scratching their heads: the lack of a two-player mode. Despite being a cooperative game that supports up to three players, the option to play with just two people is surprisingly absent.

A Missed Opportunity

Junya Ishizaki, the game’s director, recently spoke with IGN about this oversight. He admitted that the team simply didn’t consider it during development, and that’s a mistake they regret. “The simple answer is that we overlooked it,” Ishizaki said. “We were focused on creating a three-player co-op experience, and that was our main goal.”

Ishizaki explained that the team’s priority was to balance the gameplay for three players, which was the core of their vision for Nightriegn. However, this focus led to the neglect of other multiplayer options, including a two-player mode.

singleton play was considered

Interestingly, the developers at From Software did consider a single-player mode from the start. Ishizaki mentioned that they aimed to create a compelling solo experience within the constraints of the game’s systems. This effort to cater to solo players may have contributed to the oversight of the two-player mode.

Although the game won’t have a two-player mode at launch, Ishizaki’s comments suggest that it might be added in the future. For now, players will have to make do with the three-player co-op or solo experience.

Elden Ring Nightriegn is set to release on May 30th for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Despite the lack of a two-player mode, the game promises to deliver an exciting experience for those who enjoy cooperative gameplay or solo adventures.
