El Licey signs infielder Jesmuel Valentin

The Tigres del Licey announced the hiring of the infielder Jesmuel Valentín as reinforcement for the continuation of the autumn-winter tournament in the Dominican Republic, which is dedicated to the memory of Don Tomás Troncoso Cuesta.

Valentín, 28 years old and a native of Manatí, Puerto Rico, will occupy the position left by Paolo Orlando, who was discharged.
He can play both second and third base. He is the son of former player José Valentín.
"Valentín gets on base a lot and strikes out a little, he has the profile of the player we are looking for, he can hit doubles and has an above average defense. He gives us options in the infield. He has experience, he is proven, he comes from a good season in Puerto Rico and we understand that he is going to help the team a lot right now."said Fabio Herrera, Director of Baseball Operations for the Blues.
He comes from seeing action with the Leones de Ponce in the Roberto Clemente League of Puerto Rico.
In that circuit, Valentín went 40-for-153 (.261) with 25 runs scored, 10 doubles, one triple, four home runs, 22 RBIs and five stolen bases in 46 games.
In organized baseball in the United States, he has belonged to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies, and Baltimore Orioles. He made his major league debut in 2018 with the second of them.
