Ekta Kapoor relief from Patna High Court, suspension of proceedings in web series case

The Patna High Court on Wednesday suspended proceedings against filmmaker Ekta Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor before a Begusarai district court.

It is worth noting that the court had issued an order against Ekta and her mother for failing to appear despite summonses being issued several times. According to lead lawyer YV Giri, who appeared in court on behalf of the Kapoor family, Judge Satyavrat Verma approved the order and adjourned the matter for a further hearing until December.

Giri told reporters: “A petition was filed against my client in Begusarai under the sections of the Indian Penal Code related to defamation. But this was not acceptable, because defamation is always against a person. The show against the one the petitioner complained about was not addressed to anyone in particular.

Ex-military petitioner Shambhu Kumar, in an episode of the Kapoor family web series ‘Three X’ produced by ALTBalaji Telefilms, showed a soldier’s wife in an extramarital affair and, according to the petitioner, had hurt everyone’s feelings . those who have worked for the armed forces.

The Begusarai court was told on behalf of the Kapoor family that the controversial part was removed from the show. However, late last month, the court ordered the issuance of warrants for the mother-daughter duo’s arrest for failing to respond to a summons issued on an earlier date.

Last week, the creators of the web series turned to the High Court for protection, arguing that they had moved the High Court from Patna, but they feared their guilty plea might not be heard soon.
