Einer Rubio, from the work to win a stage of the Giro

Four years of drought are many, but when success comes, joy soars. From Richard Carapaz in 2019 the Movistar team did not win a stage of the Giro d’Italia, a counter that yesterday reset to zero with the great victory of Einer Rubio (25 years) in Crans Montana.

“It was my big day. She came looking for him. I have worked a lot to prepare for this Giro. I knew that Pinot was coming very strong, and that Cepeda was also very good. I just had to leave them both play my strategy a bit, and that’s why I waited until the end”, The Colombian climber explained when he reached the finish line about a perfect management of the finish that gave him his first victory in a grand tour.

Probably the most special possible, since Italy has been part of Einer for years. There he was trained in lower categories, where he resides (Pago Veiano) and even speaks his language. “Surely in a while I will be aware of what I have achieved. I am going to enjoy this victory very much. The dream has come true today.” Rubio assured, that with the peace of mind of the homework done, he will surely go for more success in this Giro. Who was going to tell this small Colombian (1.64 m) that he worked in construction to buy one of his first bicycles. Now everything is different.
