In the Unique System of Beneficiaries (SIUBEN) of the country there are registered 140,980 people who have at least one disability, being more common in women and that situation increases with age.
While eight of every 10 people with registered disabilities do not have or are out of the labor market, while 92.4% of those between the ages of 5 and 21 do not attend school.
Those are some of the results of the Study on the Situation of People with Disabilities Based on the SIUBEN 2018 Data, released yesterday by the United Nations System and SIUBEN. It was carried out and presented by researcher Pamela Suero.
The research shows that Most of the people who have a disability in the country have significant insertion difficulties and they live exclusions in terms of education, work and social participation.
Among the main findings of the study it is pointed out that of the people with disabilities registered in the SIUBEN database, 35.7% with 15 years or more did not know how to read or write and 92.4% with ages 5 to 21 years did not attend school.
Regarding access to employment, it stands out that more than 8 out of 10 people with disabilities aged 18 or over are out of the labor market, unlike people without disabilities where this proportion corresponds to only 3 out of 10 people.

Access to health
The study indicates that when people with disabilities are asked if they experience any Difficulty receiving health care The majority answered affirmatively, with 12.6% reporting that they cannot do it, 20.7% that they have a lot of difficulty and 22.3% that they have some difficulty.

Two million households
The SIUBEN 2018 Study database certified as of June 2020 contains information on a total of 2,042,006 households in a vulnerable condition, equivalent to 6,182,098 people, which represents approximately 62.0% of the national population. Regarding the total number of people who report a disability, some 140,908 were found, which represents 2.3% of the total population registered in SIUBEN.
