Egehid will promote comprehensive development of communities around the Tavera-Bao and Valdesia dams

The Dominican Hydroelectric Generation Company (Egehid) and the Metropolis Foundation for Territorial Innovation and Design signed a collaboration and cooperation agreement for the implementation of actions aimed at designing development, competitiveness, sustainability and innovation strategies for the communities around the Tavera-Bao and Valdesia hydroelectric complexes.

The objective is to propose a set of actions that facilitate sustainable management of the Tavera-Bao (Santiago) and Valdesia (San Cristóbal) dams and that activate opportunities in the territory and its surroundings to improve the quality of life of its inhabitants, attract investment from the private sector and increase the effectiveness of public sector interventions.

The agreement was signed by engineer Rafael Salazar on behalf of Egehid, and Dr. Alfonso Vegara, president of the Metropolis Foundation for Territorial Innovation and Design, in a ceremony attended by the president of the Board of Directors of the state company, Dr. Rosa Ysabel Ruíz and other officials.

“The parties agree to share information, knowledge, experience and new methods for the sustainable design of Cities and Territories”, states the document signed by Salazar y Vegara, a doctor in urban planning, economist, architect and Spanish sociologist.

The general objective will be to accelerate innovation and sustainable development in the territories. “This collaboration between the parties can include basic information on the territories, plans and projects in progress, planning, urban design, architecture, and even the incubation of strategic projects of different scales in these areas.

Thus, it will be possible to know the development opportunities of the territories in question to attract new investors, both public and private, as well as local and/or international.

The agreement includes the holding of two forums in Santiago and San Cristóbal, from which concrete, specific and integrated projects should result that, seen from the framework of the country strategy, even arise already, with eventual public, private or mixed investors.

These projects will cover topics such as the strategic management of water resources, territorial ordering, energy and the promotion of sustainable tourism.
