EGEHID receives certificate of affiliation to the International Hydroelectric Power Association

The Dominican Hydroelectric Generation Company (EGEHID) received the certificate that accredits its official affiliation to the International Hydroelectric Power Association (IHA), which brings together the main owners, operators, developers, designers and consultants of the sustainable hydroelectric branch of more than 120 countries.

The membership certificate is signed by the IHA presidentRoger Gill, as well as by Eddie Richexecutive president of the entity, considered the world’s leading authority on sustainable hydroelectric energy.

EGEHID administrator, engineer Raphael Salazarstated that the objective is to take advantage of the extensive international experience on sustainable production of renewable energies, in the search for the best technological advances in terms of infrastructure and management of hydroelectric systems.

He highlighted the importance of this type of alliance, which in effect increase the opportunities of the Dominican Republic to attract investment in the energy areawhich is part of the efforts of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, in order to develop projects under the best international standards, which allow supplying the demand for energy in correspondence with the economic growth that the nation has been experiencing, at the same time care for the environment, also paying special attention to social aspects.

EGEHID operates 27 hydroelectric plants with a total installed capacity of 624.5 megawatts of clean energy and plans to expand its participation in the market with the development of several projects, such as the Las Placetas Hydroelectric Complex, -which would contribute some 204 megawatts-, and Artibonito, which is in the design stage and would contribute more than 50 megawatts.

The state company also has in the pipeline the development of the 300 MW Camú-Guaigüí Hydropumping Project, in the province of La Vega, as well as the installation of generators in the Montegrande dams, in Barahona, and Yacahueque, in San Juan, in addition to other initiatives still under study and design.

Salazar highlighted the impact of EGEHID’s energy production in terms of stabilizing the national electricity system, both for its regulatory capacity and for the balance represented by the fact of producing clean energy at more competitive prices.
