Egan to the Tour de France: “The door is completely open”

In the Ineos Grenadiers they believe that Egan Bernal will be able to be in the Tour de France 2023. The rider’s recovery continues after he had to abandon the Tour of San Juan last January and his coach has given details of what his return would be in the coming months.

“Egan will be back in Europe very soon and hopefully he will be racing by the end of the month”, told Cyclingnews. In addition, he highlighted the support they give him to be on a par with the great cyclists this season and revealed that he has had knee problems, but they are not related to the accident suffered in Cundinamarca.

“Bernal has been a bit frustrated, but we are supporting him. Egan is itching to race, but often with these guys, you have to slow him down… If Egan was fit enough, why not take him on the Tour for his experience? And for the help you can provide to the team? The door is wide open and the Tour is still four months away, ”he added in the conversation.

Races in which Egan Bernal could return in this 2023

The cyclist manages two competition options to return to action officially: peloton: Volta a Catalunya and the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali. Both are scheduled to take place at the end of March, so Egan would still have a couple of weeks to continue with his physical reconditioning and thus be in optimal condition.

The pain in his knee, according to what Bernal himself said, left at any moment. Since then he has been training to earn a place in the big leagues where Ineos will be: “One night I was in pain and the next day I said: ‘I’m going to try and see what happens’, I tried to do rollers. I started riding, the first half hour with a little pain and it was like ‘I’m going to get off because it still hurts’, and half an hour passed and the pain disappeared, it was as if the knee needed to loosen up or warm up”.

Ineos’ plans with Daniel Martínez for the Tour

Rod Ellingworth also spoke about Daniel Martínez and the intentions of the British team for the 2023 Tour de France. The director thinks that it could be a great opportunity for the man from Bogotá thanks to the work he is doing at the moment. Expect a lot from the 26-year-old in this edition of the competition.

“Dani Martínez and perhaps Carlos Rodríguez will have their chance on the Tour. I think it is an ideal Tour for Dani this year. he continues to grow and improve. I am quite excited about Dani and what he could do on the Tour”, he concluded.
