Egan: “I’m still recovering from my knee, I hope to be back soon”

Egan Bernal and Rigoberto Urán were the great absences in the National Road Championships that ran this weekend in Bucaramanga. The 2019 Tour de France winner was unable to ride due to knee discomfortwhile the EF leader missed them due to a respiratory virus.

After the title of Esteban Chaves in the elite test, Egan congratulated him through his social networkspointed out that the Nationals “were exciting” and took the opportunity to recognize Bucaramanga, a city that demonstrated its passion for cycling in these days of competition.

“Congratulations to Chaves for being the new Colombian champion, Martínez and Nairo for completing the podium. I also take this opportunity to congratulate the people of Bucaramanga for throwing a tremendous party, welcoming us to their land and treating us so well. You can see why cycling is so important to our country,” Bernal wrote on Instagram.

In the IG post, Egan also referred to his physical condition and noted that he hopes to be back to “continue to inspire” to the new generations. His knee problem does not seem to be very serious and he was absent from the Nationals for prevention, avoiding damaging his season in Europe where the main objective will be to do a great Tour de France with INEOS.

“For my part, I am still recovering from my knee. and I hope to compete again soon to continue inspiring people, children and above all, bring a voice of encouragement to those who may need it”, added the runner.
