Egan and his absence from the World Cup: “I don’t think I’m going to contribute much”

Although the Colombian Cycling Federation has not officially published the squad list to the 2023 Road Cycling World Championships that will take place in Glasgow from August 5 to 13, Egan Bernal explained on ESPN why he decided not to be in this edition despite resisting in the Tour de France.

The Ineos runner confessed that the route does not favor him because it is totally flat. He pointed out that you always have to be realistic and honest with the national team. He hopes that another time he can be there and help with his talent on the bike to achieve a good performance.

“The truth is that they did write to me, but it is a route that does not favor me at all and I think that I am not going to contribute much either, take a climber, or me being a climber in the World Cup where it is totally flatIn a circuit with a thousand curves, I’m really going to do little there. You have to be realistic, honest with yourself, with the national team and maybe wait for another opportunity,” said the winner of the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia.

Who would go to the Cycling World Cup?

It is expected that in the next few hours the list that will go to Glasgow will officially come out. For now, it is said that they will be Miguel Ángel López, Rigoberto Urán, Fernando Gaviria, Santiago Buitrago, Harold Tejada, Rodrigo Contreras and Walter Vargas. Another of the great absences would be that of Nairo Quintana who indicated that he is willing to represent the country, but everything will depend on the Federation.

Egan Bernal is ready to finish his first major, after the hard accident he had in 2022. He has been seen resisting on the bike. He hopes to keep improving to find his best form and return to his top level. So far it’s on the right track.
