Sporting fans have a reason to cheer. Edson Valencia, the team’s star opposite hitter, has signed a new deal, keeping him in green and white. The 37-year-old Venezuelan played a massive role last season. He led Sporting to an incredible run, securing three major titles for the club.
Valencia’s leadership was key to those victories. Sporting lifted the National Championship, the Portuguese Cup, and the Supercup with him on the court. His presence clearly means a lot to the team. “I am very happy to be able to continue,” Valencia told Sporting’s official media channels. “It means a lot to know the team and the club like my work.”
This isn’t Valencia’s first dance in Portuguese volleyball. He previously showed his skills while playing for Fonte do Bastardo. Now, his sights are firmly set on the future with Sporting. He has clear personal goals, which perfectly match the club’s high expectations.
Valencia’s mindset is simple: “Win, win, and win.” He knows success demands constant effort. “Obviously, we have to work very hard for that,” he explained. “We can’t get too focused on just having won once.” He stresses the need to always play at one hundred percent. The goal is to bring home as many trophies as possible for Sporting. The upcoming Champions League debut is also on his mind. Valencia expects a strong showing there, too.
