Edgar Ramírez: The Mexican Heavyweight with a Dream
This Saturday, Edgar Ramírez, a Mexican heavyweight boxer, will face off against the unbeaten Ukrainian Andrii Novytskyi in Riyadh. Ramírez, with a record of 10-1-1 and 4 knockouts, is determined to make a name for himself in the boxing world.
A Humble Beginning
Ramírez was born in Ecatepec de Morelos, near Mexico City. He grew up in the tough neighborhood of Tepito, where he found solace in boxing at a young age. Bullying at school led him to start training at the Cloroformo Boxing Gym, where he still trains today.
A Family Affair
Ramírez works with his father in a scrapyard, but his true passion is boxing. He wants to make his family proud, especially his mother, by bringing home a championship belt. “I always go to the front like a good Mexican,” he says, showcasing his determination and fighting spirit.
A Chance to Shine
Ramírez will face Novytskyi, the current WBC International titleholder, this Saturday. Although he hasn’t seen his opponent in action, he’s confident in his abilities. “I haven’t seen how he boxes, but I have a chance of knocking him out,” he says.
A Bright Future Ahead
At 29 years old, Ramírez believes he’s just getting started. He wants to alternate between the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions, following in the footsteps of his idols, Mike Tyson and Oleksandr Usyk. “I’m going to win, but if I lose, I’ll get up ten times until I reach my goal,” he says, showcasing his resilience and determination.
A Representation of Mexico
Ramírez is proud to represent Mexico in the boxing world, a country known for producing stars in the lower weight classes. He wants to make a name for himself and bring pride to his country. “I want to be a world champion for Mexico and for bringing a belt to my mother, so she can show it off at home,” he says.
