The Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, led last Saturday the inauguration of two projects for electrification and rehabilitation of networks and electrification of agricultural plantationsdeveloped in Azua by the company Edesur Dominicana, with a investment of over RD$17 million.
The first project consists of rehabilitation of networks and lighting of the Pueblo Viejo community and it will directly impact more than 600 families, who had been demanding a better electricity service for more than 20 years, informed the Edesur administrator, Milton Morrison.
“From now on, the municipalities will have a stable and regulated voltage, reducing domestic electrical accidents, and with more and better energy. In addition, illuminated streets for greater citizen safety,” he explained.
Also, more than 300 producers who live from growing bananas, saw their dream come true After Edesur electrified its plantations and interconnected the irrigation pumps, which generated an immediate change in production, allowing it to increase its exports and sales in the national market.
This project has an impact on the Azua Valley Banana Growers Association (Azuabana) in Estebanía, which now has a 24-hour service, which has allowed production hours and merchandise packaging to be extended.
During her speech, Vice President Raquel Peña assured that for President Luis Abinader, energy is a pillar that sustains the economy because it allows industrialization and, he specified that, from the Electrical Cabinet, they will continue to respond in a timely manner to the demands of the citizens.
“When we talk about well-being, energy is a key factor. I am glad to know that, as of today, our people in Pueblo Viejo and Estebanía have better and new electrical networks to improve their quality of life,” said the vice president.
The banana interconnection carried out by the Dominican government, through Edesur Dominicana, has allowed a significant increase in the weekly export of bananasgoing from 960 boxes to 2,880, that is change, allowing more than 550 families to directly see a significant increase in their income.

The Los Bananeros project, located in the Estebanía municipality, Azua province, included the erection of 70 poles, 2.8 kilometers of medium voltage network, the installation of 21 transformers and the placement of meters.
Meanwhile, in Pueblo Viejo, 87 poles were erected, 2.41 kilometers of medium voltage network, three kilometers of low voltage, 17 transformers, the placement of 87 lights and 463 meters.
Also present at the inauguration were the governor, Ángela Gray Pérez Díaz; the senator, Lía Díaz; the mayor of Pueblo Viejo, Víctor Figuereo; deputies Carlos Ramírez and Brenda Ogando; the president of Azuabana, Franklin Crespo; the president of the Association of Shepherds, José Matos, among other personalities of the province.
