Edes registered 36.5% energy losses in May

May is the month in which the greatest energy loss have registered the Electricity Distribution Companies (EDE) throughout this year.

According to Commercial Management Reportthe distributors together recorded 36.5% energy losses, which places the average (January-May) at 30.5%.

In total, the EDEs purchased 6,578.2 GWh of energy in the first five months of this year at a cost of US$1,029.5 million, of which they billed 4,571.8 GWh (US$752.5 million) and charged 4,117.4 GWh for a value of US$672.8 million, which reflects losses of US$356.7 million between the energy purchased and that charged, so far in 2022.

The management summary as of May 2022, posted on the website of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM), indicates that electricity distribution companies present balance sheets in redthe commercial one at US$292.8 million, the current one at US$437.1 million and the global balance at US$487.0 million.

Despite the signing of the Electric Pact, losses in the distribution and sale of energy remain at unsustainable levels for the improvement of the electrical service in the country.
