Ecuador extends the state of exception

Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso yesterday Monday extended the validity of the state of emergency to the city of Durán after an attack with explosives in neighboring Guayaquil that the authorities attributed to groups linked to drug trafficking and that left at least five dead.

Since Sunday, the state of emergency has been in effect for 30 days in Guayaquil, in one of whose populous neighborhoods, Cristo del Consuelo, a bundle of chemical explosives exploded that also left 17 injured, two in critical condition, and at least eight homes and vehicles. destroyed.

Lasso assured that the decision was made due to the increase in the activities of organized crime groups whose violence has intensified and added that both cities were declared a security zone, so that joint groups of the armed forces and the police will carry out control tasks.

At the end of the afternoon in the north of the capital, near the building where the Judicial Complex operates, the police were alerted to a suspicious package. Explosives experts attended the site.
