We are in the era of eCommerce. Year after year, e-commerce breaks sales and growth records, both nationally and globally, and last-mile transportation follows in the same vein. After all, everything tangible that is bought online must be delivered.
This ‘boom’ of eCommerce has brought with it great opportunities, but also a serious sustainability problem that puts the environmental commitment of all of us who are part of the logistics chain to the test. And it is that, today, transport is one of the sectors that produces the most CO2 emissions worldwide.
A problem that, in TIPSAWe are very clear about what we want and we are going to be part of the solution. For this reason, within our Strategic Plan 2021-2025 we have launched ECOTIPSA, a new environmental responsibility program with which we are going to reduce our carbon footprint to a minimum.
Blue Angel. Eco guaranteed envelopes
At TIPSA we are committed to sustainable packaging and, for months now, all our envelopes have been made up of at least 90% recycled material. In total, in 2021 we will move more than seven million eco envelopes, an effort in favor of sustainability that has allowed us to obtain the prestigious international Blue Angel recognition.
Electrification. A more sustainable fleet
Every day more than 1,800 vehicles from the TIPSA network, including vans, trucks, bodies, bicycles and tricycles, travel our roads. We want a fleet to be an example of an ecological transition, so we are going to replace part of our diesel vehicles with more sustainable alternatives.
Tipsa go! More efficient routes = minimal contamination
We have taken a giant step in the digitization of our processes thanks to TIPSA GO! Relying on the technology of the Senda tool, we carry out the most optimal planning of the capillary distribution routes of the TIPSA network.
Not only did we improve the daily operations of our branches, but we also managed to reduce the number of delivery routes and the number of kilometers traveled on each route. Or what is the same, by avoiding unnecessary trips, we managed to reduce the carbon footprint of our routes by more than 10%.
Pickup. The most eco-friendly delivery model
Convenience points are possibly the most sustainable alternative to the traditional home delivery model, as it minimizes travel, second deliveries and returns.
Aware of this fact, we have the DPDgroup Red Pickup, with 2,500 collection points throughout Spain and more than 45,000 points throughout Europe. The largest network on the continent, and the best alternative to take care of the environment without losing an iota of the quality that is TIPSA’s hallmark.
ECOGREEN. Sustainable health
Every day, all hospitals and clinics in Spain receive hundreds of single-use packages that end up becoming garbage to be disposed of, with the generation of waste and added costs that this entails.
In TIPSA this problem does not exist. Thanks to our alliance with Cool Chain Logistics, we have made ECOGREEN available to the pharmaceutical sector, a novel smart container system that reduces the environmental impact of temperature-controlled packaging by more than 50%. Currently, this green and ecological solution is being applied in 60,000 deliveries per year, which generates a saving of 50 tons of waste, and our forecast is to reach 100,000 deliveries in the next two years.
Central HUB. Eco friendly infrastructure
In addition to having the most modern express transport infrastructure in the country, our new central platform in Madrid is perfectly adapted to caring for the environment.
100% of the plastic and waste it generates is compacted and recycled through specialized companies, while almost 100% of the energy in our offices comes from solar panels. In addition, our warehouse has six charging points for electric vehicles and intelligent air conditioning equipment that allow energy savings of 15%.
