“We’re not back to normal because normality was the problem “

From the cooperative medium La Ink, we are delighted to announce the premiere of the documentary series Earth on the table. From global pandemics and local crops, carried out throughout 2021 with the support of the Rosa Luxemburgo Foundation. In this audiovisual production born in the midst of the pandemic, five points in Córdoba territory dedicated to food are visited by researchers from different disciplines in search of alternatives to the current context of ecological, sanitary and civilizational crisis.

Did the pandemic really mean a brake on rethinking how we inhabit the planet? What do coronaviruses and the environment have to do with our daily meal? These and other questions guide the story of this new series in which women from social organizations and families in the province of Córdoba who are dedicated to the production, distribution or preparation of food are visited by specialists from different disciplines.

Is this produced? What is produced goes to each one? A problem is on everyone’s table, a discomfort lurks in every day’s plateful. This is the origin of this path that, over five chapters, retraces the path of food in search of visions and experiences that show that a harmony in the relationship with the environment, health and the community is possible and necessary.

Food sovereignty, agroecology, ecofeminisms and popular, social and solidarity economy are the protagonists of this production, which in turn addresses, as a counterpoint to these experiences, the consequences of the agrifood model and its relationship with the pandemic.

Today, Tuesday, November 23, we will debut the first chapter and, in the coming weeks, the following chapters will be published. The series can be seen at www.latinta.com.ar or on La ink’s YouTube channel.

The territories and protagonists

Earth on the table. From global pandemics and local crops it encompasses the experience of five social organizations, communities, cooperatives and families, supported by essential workers who, in various ways, are dedicated to food. Five researchers come to each of these territories to learn about their work and start a knowledge dialogue about their context and the difficulties imposed by the dominant agrifood model.

“Living in the Mountain” is the title of the first chapter, in which peasant Silvia Sosa welcomes biologist and philosopher Guillermo Folguera into her community, located in the northeast of the province and organized in the “Peasant Movement of Córdoba”.

In the second chapter, “Regenerating from the ground”, agronomist Claudio Sarmiento visits the “El Milagro” field in southern Córdoba, where Luciana Sagripanti and her partner are dedicated to agroecology.

“Las Rositas” is a vegetable garden that produces vegetables in the green belt of the city of Córdoba. There, Mirtha Galean and her family receive the architect Beatriz Giobellina in the third chapter of the series, entitled “Feeding the Big City”.

The fourth chapter, “Weaving networks for another economy”, takes place in the cooperative “Enredar” in the city of Río Cuarto, which distributes healthy foods through direct commerce. There, Daniela Jara receives along with her colleagues the economist Karina Tomatis.
