Niantic, the company responsible for Pokémon Go, has partnered with the Fold company to create a new Augmented Reality experience, in which players can earn bitcoins in a virtual environment.
The new app, called Fold AR, is now available in beta for all users of the Fold app to try. but how does it work? In a way quite similar to the popular Pokémon title.

In fact, instead of discovering rare creatures around them, players are invited to discover and collect bitcoins and other prizes in their environment using Niantic’s augmented reality technology.

Every 10 minutes a new rewards block is available.

Every ten minutes, a new rewards block is made available near each player, and once blocked, the player earns Satoshis (a kind of cryptocurrency) and other rewards. But beware that sometimes the blocks do not have rewards, but a poisonous pill, which can bring some discomfort.

Will Reeves, CEO of Fold, explains that this is a fun and easy way for users to earn their first bitcoin in a virtual environment that Fold describes as a “real-world metaverse.”
There are two more companies betting on the metaverse area, although here we find a very different vision from the one promoted by Meta, ex-Facebook, which aims to connect people in an Augmented Reality environment.
