EA Lays Off Hundreds, Cancels Titanfall Universe Extraction Shooter Game Project

EA has confirmed a major restructuring effort, resulting in hundreds of layoffs and the cancellation of two projects, including a Titanfall game in development by Respawn Entertainment. Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier reported the news, citing sources within the company.

The layoffs are estimated to affect 300-400 employees, with around 100 of those being Respawn staff. One of the cancelled projects is an Extraction Shooter game, codenamed “R7”, which was still in development but far from release. Another project was cancelled earlier this year.

Respawn’s Response

Respawn Entertainment released a statement on social media, confirming the cancellation of two projects and a “team restructure” to align with company goals. However, they assured fans that they will continue working on a new Star Wars Jedi game and upcoming seasons for Apex Legends, which has already been announced.

EA’s Long-Term Strategy

Justin Higgs, an EA representative, explained that the layoffs are part of a long-term strategy to align teams and resources, enabling the company to grow in the future.
