EA Cancels Black Panther Game Due to Extended Pre-Production Phase

Electronic Arts, or EA, pulled the plug on Cliffhanger Games and canceled the Black Panther game. This project was first announced in 2023, but since then, it’s been radio silence.

Recently, Bloomberg reported that EA’s management lost patience. Four years in, the game was still in pre-production, with little progress.

Cliffhanger, founded by ex-Monolith Productions staff, aimed to create a new system. They wanted to expand the Nemesis system and have multiple playable characters, like T’Challa, Shuri, and Killmonger, all vying for the Black Panther title.

The game would’ve pitted Wakanda against the Skrulls, shapeshifting aliens from the MCU. This would’ve been a perfect fit for the upgraded Nemesis system, as enemies could infiltrate the player’s team. Imagine if your teammate turned out to be a Skrull leader you thought you’d defeated.

These ideas never came to be. Again, this is based on Bloomberg’s report, so we’ll have to wait for more details.
