EA just canceled its Black Panther game. That’s not all – the company is also shutting down the studio behind it, Cliffhanger Games.
According to IGN, EA Entertainment’s president, Laura Miele, sent an internal email to the team announcing the project’s cancellation. The reason? To focus on projects with more growth potential.
This means bad news for Cliffhanger Games’ employees, many of whom previously worked on Shadow of Mordor. They’re out of a job. Some EA employees are also affected, but the exact number is unclear.
This isn’t EA’s first recent layoff. The company previously cut 300-400 jobs, including some at Respawn. It also canceled development of a new Extraction Shooter game that hadn’t been announced yet.
