Dutch bitcoin miner makes gas superfluous when heating warehouse

Bitcoin (BTC) mining has a lot of advantages and disadvantages. However, some of those disadvantages can be turned into advantages. Bitcoin Brabant recently showed in a tweet how the company does this. It has installed a BTC miner in a warehouse, where the machine now functions as a heater in addition to the miner.

Mining Bitcoin with leftover electricity

Bitcoin Brabant, a company that, as the name suggests, comes from Brabant, shared an interesting tweet the day before yesterday. It shows how it uses bitcoin miners for both mining BTC and heating up a warehouse. This heating is done with a monster that the company calls “the Bazooka”:

“Our latest installation heats a warehouse with electricity instead of natural gas. We have installed manual valves to direct the airflow. The sound is muffled to below 40db with a large muffler. The people who work in the warehouse enjoy the warm temperature and the low noise.”

A bitcoin miner uses a lot of power to perform complicated calculations, a tricky point that you often see in the bitcoin news. The ultimate goal of miners is to process transactions on the network and to secure the network. But as residual ‘waste’, the miners also generate a lot of heat. And instead of simply letting this heat escape, you can of course do other things with it.

The warehouse in question is now enjoying the heat generated by this Bitmain Antminer S19j Pro. The electricity they use for this comes from the solar panels on the roof. Against Cointelegraph states that Bert de Groot, founder of Bitcoin Brabant, has a surplus of 50 megawatt hours per year as a result.

From expensive gas to BTC

The warehouse previously used natural gas to heat the place. And you can imagine that that is extremely expensive, especially in these times. Moreover, it is of course bad for the climate. In short, by using a bitcoin miner, the warehouse kills several birds with one stone.

With the surplus of electricity from the solar panels on the roof, bitcoin is earned and the warehouse is kept warm! That’s one of the innovative ways Bitcoin as a centralized monetary network provides outcomes in these times.

Bitcoin Brabant has already been featured in the crypto news. It also uses miners to supply heat in greenhouse horticulture.
