Dutch angry over apology letter from crypto trader who lost millions

A crypto trader from Hengelo wrote a detailed letter he apologized to the more than 300 Dutch people whose money he lost. For them he traded cryptocurrencies, with which he successfully built up a large customer base. However, this success also came to an end. After losing millions due to big risks, he yesterday sent a letter of apology to those affected.

The failed “crypto genius” apologizes

On February 7, a 23-year-old crypto trader from Hengelo sent a letter of apology to his customers. In it, among other things, he apologizes and reconstructs how it turned out that way. The email sent by an intermediary opened like this:

“Dear stakeholders, with this letter I would like to help clarify the current situation and show you the possibilities of an objective presentation of the facts.”

The law student and football player currently lives at a secret address. He is protected by the police. It is not yet known what consequences the failed investor will face. However, all hope for those affected has disappeared; In his message he makes it clear that there is nothing left of the money invested.

De Hengeloer argues that the blame does not lie solely with him; Customers reportedly pressured him to take more risks. According to him, they wanted a higher return, after which he deviated from his “self-made success strategy”. This led to him reaching a tipping point after two years of “successful” investing.

“Apologizing only makes the situation worse”

The apology letter was not gratefully accepted by the victims. According to the victims, it was agreed that in the event of a loss of 12.5%, the investor would discuss how to proceed. In her opinion, the fact that he only contacted him when all the funds were lost is a disgrace and puts the blame squarely on him.

The fact that the crypto trader describes how annoying the situation is for him and his family only makes it worse, according to his former customers:

“Peace had just returned to some extent, but this email just made everyone angrier,” said one of the victims. “His main concern seems to be keeping his family out of it. (…) And now, above all, he says how miserable he is. Well, it is particularly bad for all those people who saw him as a crypto miracle and a crypto genius and whose trust was betrayed.”
