Drunk, a Japanese policeman loses the personal data of 400 people

A police officer lost confidential investigation documents after a drunken evening this weekend in Hyogo, western Japan. The 49-year-old officer drank too much and fell asleep in the middle of the street between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. These documents contained the personal data of approximately 400 people, including a criminal suspect, involved in investigations. The papers included the names and addresses of the people.

A problem with alcohol in Japan

According to Japanese media, the officer had been out for a drink with colleagues and fell asleep on the street on his way home. When he woke up near a train station, he couldn’t find the bag and the documents he was carrying.

This is not the first time that similar situations have arisen in Japan. In June, authorities in Amagasaki said an entrepreneur lost a bag and a USB key containing the personal data of the city’s 460,000 residents after going out for a drink. Fortunately, the USB key was found the next day.
