Baseball games are usually fun, family-friendly events, but one recent match took a wild turn. A dad who snagged a home run ball for his young son saw it snatched away by another fan. Now, that same dad is speaking out, asking people to stop the intense online bullying against the woman involved.
The strange incident happened on Friday, September 5th. It was during a game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Miami Marlins at LoanDepot Park in Miami. Phillies player Harrison Bader smacked a home run right into the left-field stands. Drew Feltwell, a quick-thinking dad, managed to grab the ball. He then did what many dads would do: he proudly handed the souvenir to his son, Lincoln.

That’s when things got awkward. A woman, later nicknamed “Phillies Karen” by the internet, who had also tried to catch the ball, rushed over. She demanded the ball from Feltwell. Caught off guard by her intense attitude, Feltwell gave in and handed over the ball. “She kept screaming and screaming and screaming,” Feltwell told CBS News on Monday. “I would have loved to turn around or push her away or something, but, you know, there were a lot of eyes on me. So I just decided to get it over with, give her the ball, be glad she was gone, and end the matter.”
The whole scene quickly went viral, spreading across social media like wildfire. Naturally, people online were outraged by the woman’s actions. Many offered to track her down, eager to see her face consequences. But Feltwell now says the online backlash has gone too far. “Please, don’t do anything to that woman,” Drew Feltwell told USA Today Sports on Monday, September 8th. “Leave her alone. If someone knows her and can talk with her, that’s different. But, for God’s sake, I don’t want people breaking into her house or anything like that. The internet has already done enough damage to her.”
Feltwell admits the situation was frustrating. The woman’s identity is still not publicly known, but the father believes the online mockery she’s received is already plenty. “I could say she got what she deserved,” he added, “but I don’t know if she deserved so much.”
The hunt for “Phillies Karen” even forced a New Jersey school district to speak up. The speculation became so wild that some people wrongly linked the woman to the district. “The woman identified on social media as ‘Phillies Karen’ is not and has never been an employee of Hammonton Public Schools,” the Hammonton Public Schools stated on Facebook on Saturday, September 6th. They even joked about it, adding, “Anyone who works for our school district, attended as a student, or lives in our community, obviously would have caught the ball with their hand, in the first place.”
Even though the moment at the game was tough, the story does have a sweet ending. Before the Phillies-Marlins game was even over on Friday, the Phillies invited the Feltwell family near the team’s locker room. There, young Lincoln received a special gift: a baseball bat, personally signed by Harrison Bader, the player who hit the home run. It was a kind gesture to turn a sour memory into a truly unforgettable one.
