Double Homicide Shakes Canelones City Leaving Many Unanswered Questions

A suspect has been charged in connection with a double homicide that occurred on May 18 in Cannelloni. The accused, Gustavo Javier Balle Camacho, has a prior criminal record and is alleged to have committed the crimes in a state of real reiteration, along with a crime of home violation.

Precautionary Measures

Judge Sofía Braida ordered the indictment of the suspect at the request of the Las Piedras prosecutor, Cecilia Gutiérrez. As a precautionary measure, the judge determined preventive detention for 150 days, until June 22, 2025.

The suspect was arrested hours after the double homicide, along with another individual who was later released by order of the Prosecutor’s Office. During the arrest, the police found the suspect in possession of over 21,000 pesos and a discarded jacket near the scene of the crime.

Victims and Crime Scene

The victims of the double homicide were two men, aged 64 and 71, who had lived in the house for several years. Their bodies were discovered inside the home with stab wounds, beaten, and tied with a sheet. The house was partially burned, and several objects were missing, including a jug and a chainsaw.

According to the Chief of Police of Canelones, Víctor Trezza, the homicides may be linked to a property crime, where the perpetrators entered the house to steal but ended up killing the victims. Investigators believe that two individuals were involved in the crime.
