Dorival Júnior is back in club football after a two-year hiatus, and he’s taking the reins at Corinthians.
The 63-year-old coach was officially unveiled on Monday, having signed a contract that runs until December 31, 2026.
He’s already started working with the team, replacing Rámon Díaz, who was let go after just four matches into the Brasileirão.
Corinthians announced Dorival’s appointment in a social media post that caught fans’ attention.
The team is currently 12th in the league standings.
Dorival’s return to club management comes after his stint with the Brazilian national team ended abruptly.
A 4-1 loss to Argentina in March sealed his fate, and he’s now handing over to Carlo Ancelotti in June.
Before taking the national team job, Dorival had been coaching São Paulo, where he won the Copa do Brasil in 2023.
He’s got a lot of experience to draw on as he takes on this new challenge.
Dorival’s Coaching Background
Dorival’s move to Corinthians marks a significant change for the team.
Some key points about his appointment include:
- Contract runs until December 31, 2026
- Replaces Rámon Díaz, who was dismissed after four matches
- Corinthians is currently 12th in the league
- Dorival previously coached São Paulo and the Brazilian national team
- Won the Copa do Brasil with São Paulo in 2023
The Brazilian national team’s coaching change is already underway, with Ancelotti set to take over in June.
Dorival’s exit was prompted by a disappointing loss to Argentina, which led to his dismissal exactly a month before his appointment at Corinthians was announced.
