Follow the mess in the Mavericks. The team is on the limit, risking to enter at least the play in and with a huge sporting and structural crisis. The signing of Kyrie Irving has not gone as expected and, having finished in the Western Conference quarterfinals in February, they may have to say goodbye to the season in a few days. A truly catastrophic vision if we take into account that the objective was, at least, to equal the result of last year, when they sneaked in as unexpectedly as deservedly in a Western final in which they fell against the Warriors (4-1). The entity’s best result since 2011, when said round was passed and surpassed before the well-known ring by Dirk Nowitzki and company.
It seemed that everything was heading towards an optimistic future full of smiles. Nothing could be further from the truth: the season has been unsuccessful and not even Luka Doncic’s constant displays are worth the Mavs to add victories. The crisis is incredible, tremendous. And everything is heading towards a summer in which many important decisions will have to be made to see which course is followed for the immediate future.. Meanwhile, no defense, very little collective play, a huge dependence on Doncic, many problems on the bench with a Jason Kidd married to immobility… In short: nothing works.
And the worst thing is not that: it seems that the chemistry is not very good and that it is worn. It seems so, at least, when we have read the statements by the father of Tim Hardaway, of the same name, Doncic’s teammate. Hardaway has spoken of the Mavericks’ problems and has called “weeping” to the Slovenian, in addition to talking about the lack of leadership within the team. “They need a leader out there. Luka is not a leader, Kyrie is not a leader”, he assures. And he also says that it is the fault of the NBA that the point guard is like that and that there are many “you drink” now in the North American competition.
Statements don’t help. Not at all, if we take into account the situation of the Mavericks. It demonstrates a deep underlying problem within an entity that is in a really complex moment and that has a really bad present and an absolutely uncertain future. And the crossed accusations do not help at all when the season is very close to its end and each game counts. At the moment, things are still very bad in Dallas. The rest, we’ll see.
Tim Hardaway Jr.’s apology
One of the reactions precisely to the words of Tim Hardaway Sr. has been his son. “I disagree 100%” began his statement, in which he is absolutely dissatisfied with his father’s words and is in charge of defending Luka Doncic and his figure.
