Donald Tusk, new Prime Minister of Poland

The Polish Parliament elected the opposition leader this Monday, Donald Tuskwho leads Citizens’ Platformwhen the new prime minister failed due to a lack of support after the inauguration of the ultra-conservative Mateusz Morawiecki.

This happens afterwards Morawiecki failed in his attempt to gain the trust of the Chamber after a vote in which he received only 190 yes votes compared to 266 no votes. He was nominated by Polish President Andrezj Duda as a candidate to form a government without having the necessary support.

The Civic Platform won 157 deputies in the last elections, along with Third Way’s 65 and La Izquierda’s 26, managed to overthrow Morawiecki and his ultra-conservative politics.

For her part, the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsolahas emphasized on the aforementioned social network that he hopes to work with Tusk, who is a “strong supporter” of the European Union, “for a prosperous Poland and a stronger Europe.”
