The President of the United States, Donald Trump, made a significant announcement on Tuesday, stating that the USA “will take control” of the Gaza Strip. The Gaza Strip is a coastal enclave governed by Hamas since 2007, and they have rejected the proposal, describing it as “racist.”
The US President suggested that Palestinians leave the war-torn territory and relocate to countries such as Egypt and Jordan. However, both Jordan and the Palestinians themselves have expressed opposition to this idea.
In contrast, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu views the initiative as having the potential to “change history.”
## What does the US president project?
Trump did not provide details on how he plans to implement this plan, only stating that it is a “long-term” project. He claimed that other countries have expressed support for the idea.
According to Trump, the decision was not made lightly, and he hopes to transform the territory into a thriving region, referring to it as the “Costa Azul de Oriente Middle.” He also believes that the two million inhabitants of Gaza should “go to other countries.”
Netanyahu, who has described Trump as the “best friend that Israel has ever had,” thinks that Washington’s plan for Gaza could “change the story” and is worth considering.
