Donald Trump Denies Considering Third Term US Presidential Election Run

Former US President Donald Trump says he won’t run for a third term. He made this clear in a recent interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press with Kristen Welker”. Trump stated that he will serve two terms as President, emphasizing that he believes this is very important.

The 78-year-old Trump had previously joked about running for a third or even fourth term. He later clarified that his comments were just a joke to “fool the fake news media”. However, his company, Trump Organization, sold hats with “Trump 2028” on them, sparking speculation about his future plans.

In the NBC interview, Trump said many people have asked him to stay in office longer. “Many people want me to do it,” he said, just days after celebrating 100 days since his second inauguration. Trump acknowledged that the US Constitution doesn’t allow a president to serve more than two terms. The 22nd Amendment to the Constitution states that no one can be elected president more than twice.

Some of Trump’s supporters have suggested that there might be a loophole in the Constitution. When NBC asked Trump if anyone had discussed this idea with him, he replied, “As a big supporter, many people say many different things.”

Trump also mentioned possible Republican successors, including current Vice President JD Vance and former Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Constitutional Limits

Changing the Constitution requires a two-thirds majority in both the House and Senate, as well as approval from three-fourths of state governments.

Trump’s comments come after speculation about his future plans. The sale of “Trump 2028” hats by his company fueled rumors that he might try to stay in office beyond his second term.
