Dominican works to replace Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will miss the World Baseball Classic due to a sore knee, general manager Nelson Cruz said.

“Unfortunately this came up yesterday (Friday) with Vladi on his right knee and he will not be able to be with us. No one is more sorry than him for not going out on the field for his country in the Classic, ”Cruz said through a press release from the Dominican Baseball Federation (FEDOM).

“These things happen, they are part of the game. We hope he recovers, God willing, and has a great year with his Toronto team,” added Cruz.

The Dominican squad is working on finding a replacement for Guerrero Jr. to be included in the roster and various options are being evaluated.

That movement will be announced in the next few hours.

The Dominican Republic team, champion of the 2013 version of the World Classic, will meet this Monday in Fort Myers, Florida, where they will train from Tuesday and will have exhibition matches on Wednesday and Thursday.

The first official match for the Dominicans in the World Classic will be on the 11th of this month against Venezuela, at 7:00 p.m., at the Marlins Stadium in Miami.
