Dominican Republic will remain in the Pro Tempore presidency of Concadeco

The heads of the government agencies that make up the Consumer Defense Council of Central America and the Dominican Republic (Concadeco) adjusted their constitutive regulations, so that Dominican Republic continues in the Pro Tempore Presidency of the regional body.

The decision was made in a virtual meeting held yesterday, in which officials from the countries that make up Concadeco valued the work being carried out by the executive director of the National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumidor), Eddy Alcántara, since he took office.

Among the motivations that were made, the actions to achieve joint work with the Central American Integration System (SICA) and have achieved a declaration in favor of all consumer sectors in the region, in the sense of creating a tool to measure the impact of inflation on the main products of the basic food basket.

“This has allowed governments to focus on guaranteeing that these products are not directly affected in these times, in which sudden inflation occurs due to exogenous factors and has been maintained for the last three years,” explained the Concadeco counterparts.

Also noteworthy is the fact of having achieved that this regional entity had collaboration approaches and strengthening of the counterpart agencies of Central America with SICA, the Economic Integration System (SIECA), the World Bank and the European Union.

Most of the heads of these agencies agreed that it was necessary to modify their temporary regulations for the presidency because the advances are evident and they are trying to conclude all the programs that have been advanced and that have arisen in this presidency headed by the official Dominican.

It is recalled that Dr. Eddy Alcántara will also assume, in November, the Presidency of the Ibero-American Forum of Government Agencies for the Defense of Consumer Rights (FIAGC), in which he was elected with the unanimous and favorable vote of the member countries of that forum for the period 2023-2024.

It is the first time that a head of one of the consumer protection government agencies of a Caribbean country has been elected president of the Ibero-American Forum, as well as the first time that he simultaneously presides over both international institutions.
