Dominican Republic deports former Haitian sports minister accused of rape and pedophilia

The Haitian Police reported this Wednesday the arrest of the former Minister of Sports, Evans Lescouflair, charged in January with rape and pedophilia.

According to a publication, Lescouflair was arrested on Saturday the second of this month by the authorities of Puerto Rico and then deported to the Dominican Republic, the country that handed over the former official to Haiti.

“This arrest follows a warrant issued against him for rape, sexual abuse and indecent exposure by the Government Commissioner at the Court of First Instance of Port-au-Prince, Me Jacques Lafontant,” the publication says.

Lescouflair was actively wanted by the National Central Bureau of Interpol (BCN-Interpol/DCPJ) after the arrest warrant.

The Haitian police reported that they are keeping him in custody pending the corresponding legal actions.

Reports indicate that Evans Lescouflair fue denounced by an ambassador of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) in Haiti of repeatedly raping him from the age of 11.

In addition to this complaint, the former official was accused in 2010 of raping a minor under 16 years of age, but his case was declared inadmissible due to lack of evidence.
