The Senior Women’s National Volleyball Team of the Dominican Republic defeated this Friday, for the first time, in a senior competition the Chinese team, with a score of 3-2, (20-25. 25-20, 22-25, 25-20 and 15-13) in a great match full of great emotions, in the continuation of the League of Nations Championship.
Today, the Queens of the Caribbean team will face the Serbian team, number four in the world ranking, at dawn. It is the second victory in a row that the Creoles have achieved.
It is remembered that in the 2014 World Cup in Italy, the Dominicans were very close to winning, putting the game 2-0 in their favor, but the Asians made a comeback and took the 3-2 victory. In minor categories, the Dominican Republic has defeated China, the great Asian country of more than 1.4 billion inhabitants.
The offensive attack of the Dominicans was led by Gaila González who scored 35 points, followed by the center back, Jineirys Martínez with 22 points and Brayelin Martínez with 19.
For China, Yingying Li shone with 22 points and Yuan Xinyue Yuan who scored 16 points.
The match was a pure battle, offensive and defensive from both sides of the court, where the Dominicans, after losing the first set, always kept giving the fight to the Chinese sextet that occupies 5th place in the FIVB World ranking.
In the second game, solid attacks from Gaila González, Brayelin Martínez and Jineirys Martínez from all angles of the court, which had great defensive resistance from their opponents, but even so, they fell into no man’s land.
The blocking of the Caribbeans was an important factor in the game, which sometimes upset the Chinese team.
In the third, China reacted and with good attacks and a great defense took the same to put the game 2-1.
In the fourth, again, the trilogy of Gaila, Brayelin and Jinerisy, with the defensive support of Brenda Castillo and Yaneirys Rodríguez, as well as Geraldine González, fought to give their all for the country and leveled the game to provoke the fifth set.
In the fifth, it became very close, since none of the sextets gave their rival a break and with the game tied at 12 per side, the Dominicans got three final points to celebrate their victory with great joy.
