The exports of meat and meat products Dominicans reduced their concentration towards Haiti from 96.3% in 2012 to 39.7% in 2021while other destinations such as Guatemala (34.9%), El Salvador (8.7%), China (5.2%) and the United States (5.0%) gained importance, highlights a report from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes (MICM).
The MICM report, the governing body of the industrial sector, states that the meat industries contribute to the economy around nine thousand formal jobs and that in the year 2021 a total of 111 companies were identified in the countryof which 54.1% of these are concentrated in Greater Santo Domingo.
The study “Economic profile of the meat conservation, production and processing industry in the Dominican Republic” highlights the sustained growth of the subsector during the 2010-2021 period and details that, in that period, sales registered an average annual increase of 11.6 %, going from 15,922 million to 52,750 million pesos.
Regarding the size of the industries, 36% are microenterprises, 31.5% small, 27.9% large and 4.5% medium, details the document published at the end of September of the current year.
“At MICM we are committed to the creation of public policies aimed at agribusiness, which include programs, training workshops and technical training to strengthen human capital and improve the production of each company,” said Minister Víctor -Ito- Rookie.
