Brewers reliever JC Mejia became the second Milwaukee player to receive an 80-game suspension in a six-week span, when Major League Baseball announced Tuesday that the Dominican would be disciplined under the Joint Schedule of League Drug Prevention and Treatment.
Mejía tested positive for the synthetic steroid Stanozolol, according to MLB. His suspension will be effective immediately.
Like catcher Pedro Severino, who was suspended just before opening day, Mejia’s penalty is unpaid and he will not play for the next 80 regular-season games, plus the 2022 playoffs.
Mejia, 25, appeared in two games with the Brewers after recently being promoted from Triple-A Nashville. He came to Milwaukee in a trade from Cleveland last November.
