Dominican free agents 2022; Who will sign and continue in GL?

With most of the giant contracts already settled, the free agent market expands to a broad sector of mid-status players who play important roles in the destinies of the different major league franchises.

Dansby Swanson and Carlos Rondón are among the main players who still have to sign good agreements in a 2022 that ends in style, with mega contracts received by players such as Aaron Judge (340 million for 9 years), Carlos Correa (350 for 13 seasons with the Giants), Trea Turner (311 million for 10 seasons with the Phillies); Xander Bogaerts (280 million for 11 seasons with the Padres), Jacob deGrom (185 million for 5 years with Texas); Brandon Nimmo (152 million for 8 seasons with the Mets) and Edwin Díaz (102 million for five years with the Mets), all agreed for more than three figures with their respective teams.

And what about Justin Verlander, who at 39 years old agreed for 86 million dollars with the Mets themselves and in the final stage of his career will earn 43 million in each of the next two seasons.

With them, the always-awaited era of free agents is just beginning, since the list is extensive and the Majors will say goodbye to 2022 very actively and in this same way will welcome the coming year with signatures everywhere.

In this group there are at least 18 Dominicans, who hope to be part of the millionaire dance offered by the Major Leagues. Some have already solved their problems like Rafael Montero, who returns to Houston for 34.5 million and three seasons, Carlos Santana, with the Pirates for 6.7 million; Carlos Estévez 13 million for two years with Anaheim; Jeimer Candelario 5.0 million for one year with the Nationals.

However, players like Jean Segura, Willi Castro, Raimel Tapia, Michael Pineda, Wily Peralta are some of the Dominicans most likely to reach salary agreements in the coming weeks.

Other older ones like Jhonny Cueto (37 years old) and Nelson Cruz (40) hope to continue with their careers. The Blue Jays have had their eye on Cueto. In the case of Cruz, he comes from his worst season in the Majors and finds himself in a situation in which he must manage the Dominican team that will attend the World Baseball Classic and seek to maintain his permanence in the game.

And what to say about Robinson Canó, at 40 years old he is a free agent, but last season he experimented with three teams and could not solve. Jonathan Villar also traveled through several teams without achieving success. His average was just .208 with three homers and 18 RBIs with the Cubs, Anaheim.

Segura and Colomé come from decent seasons and this allows them to listen to some offers from their suitors. In the case of the former, he could leave the Phillies, since the arrival of Turner increases the traffic between the shortstop and the intermediate and the native of San Juan comes from earning 14.8 million dollars.

Not so with Miguel Sanó, whose campaign ended on July 29 and perhaps his suitors are few and Gary Sánchez, has averaged .147, .204 and 205 in the last three seasons. Both are still young 30 years. Like Sano, injuries have slowed the development of Alex Reyes, a once-great prospect with the Cardinals who saved 29 for the Cardinals just a year ago. The Marlins are currently evaluating him.

Free agents like Hanser Alberto and Arístides Aquino resolved their problems and signed contracts in the Far East.

It will be interesting to see what the near future holds for this group of Dominican free agents, who hope by all means to continue receiving their slice of the giant pie that is Major League Baseball.
