Dominican beat Korea

The Senior Women’s Volleyball Team of the Dominican Republic won its first victory in the Nations League on Wednesday (1-4) after winning three sets to zero (25-21, 25-17 and 25-13) against Korea, in the continuation of Group 3, of the League of Nations that is held here.

The Dominican Republic will face this Thursday, June 16, the Italian team at 5:00 in the afternoon.

 

The debut of the stellar Brayelin Martínez gave another face to the winning team and immediately began to pay dividends in each set.

The offensive attack of the criollas was led by Yonkaira Peña with 22 points, followed by Brayelin Martínez with 10 points and Gaila González with 8 points.

For Korea, the best was Hoyoung Jung with 9 points and Kim Heejin with 8 points.

An effective job was carried out by the center backs Jineirys Martínez and Geraldine Gonzàlez, who made contact with a large part of the balls that passed through their premises.

In the first set, the Dominican team relied on the offensive field of Yonkaira Peña, Brayelin Martínez, in her debut in the League of Nations, and Gaila González, to take control of the scoreboard 9-6.

The serve of the Dominicans hurt the Korean team at one point, as did the good defense presented by those coached by Marcos Kwiek.

The criollas with the game 21-17 took advantage of several bad services from their opponents to put the game 23-19, however, Korea blocked Yonkaira Peña and released her, Yineiris Peña missed a ball to get closer to the scoreboard, but finally, one of the Korean players dropped a serve to end the set.

In the second sets, the Dominicans continued with their good defense, the blocking improved a lot and Yonkaira Peña, Brayelin Martínez and Gaila González once again took the offensive dominance against their rivals.

One factor that hurt Korea is that they dropped more than five serves and left others in the net.

The Caribeñas to close the quarter made a 7-2 rally when they had the score 17-25, to put the game 24-17.

Brayelin Martínez punished with strong shots from the corners and also from the full back position.

In the third game, the winners got a comfortable lead on the scoreboard, which they never lost, while the losers lowered their intensity on the court.
