Domingo Acevedo will be reliever with the Stars

Domingo Acevedo was one of the main supports that the Stars had, in an important journey of his interrupted career towards the championship title, in Dominican professional baseball, in the 2020-2021 season.

This time the right-hander, who astonished more than one as a starting pitcher and as a reliever, intends to do it in a single role: reliever.

This was what Acevedo made known, when he appeared at the All-Star training sessions at the Milwaukee Brewers complex, where he categorically stated:

“I’m just going as a reliever. Until now I have no limits as to how long I will be with the team, I want to go all season ”.

Acevedo pitched in 5 games, 3 of them as a starter, in his Dominican League debut, as the Stars struggled to reach the postseason last season.

His work, in which he showed the power of his shipments and the effectiveness of them, was later missed, when his Major League organization (Oakland Athletics) recommended that he rest, before presenting himself to spring training, in search of sneak up to the majors.

The native of Santiago Rodríguez was inserted in the rotation of starting pitchers of the Stars, at a time when, for different reasons (among them, some related to the Covid-19 pandemic), there was a shortage of arms to carry out the task.

Acevedo responded satisfactorily. He concluded the season with 14.2 innings pitched of 6 hits and one run allowed (0.61 ERA), with 11 strikeouts and 6 walks, in the Regular Series.

The Stars missed him in a miniplayoff in which they beat the Leones del Escogido in 2 games and in the Semifinal Series that they lost to the Gigantes del Cibao.

GAVE HIM CONFIDENCE

“Throwing here gave me confidence,” Acevedo said, pondering how his work last winter had a positive influence on his game, starting in the spring, in the United States.

He noted that he learned many things, from the advice of some of the veteran pitchers of the Stars, which, eventually served him for his first promotion to the majors, where in 10 games, all as a reliever, he had an ERA of 3.27, at 11.0 episodes per job.

His promotion to the Great Circus was thanks to a good job in Triple A, where he was later returned and concluded with records of 2-0, 2.48 and 9 saves.

This time, Acevedo hopes to learn other things in his stint with the Stars as he seeks to establish himself in the big leagues.

“There is always something new to learn,” Acevedo said. “I come here to continue improving and to compete, to win.”

“My dream is always to win, to reach the finals,” he said. “It is useless to play and stay halfway. Last year we left something behind and this year we all have the goal of finishing it ”.
