Dodgers attack early and avoid sweep against Nationals, Alberto drives in two

Hanser Alberto hit a two-run double as part of a six-run rally for the Los Angeles Dodgers, who avoided an unbudgeted sweep by beating the Washington Nationals 7-1 on Wednesday.

Gavin Lux had three hits and drove in a pair of runs, while Mookie Betts reached base four times for the NL-leading Dodgers.

Los Angeles had won 19 of 21 games before unexpectedly losing the first two this week to Washington, the worst team in the majors.

Andrew Heaney pitched four scoreless innings, allowing one hit. He returned after a long absence due to injury.

It was the end of a 5-2 home run for the Dodgers at the site of the recent All-Star Game.

The Dodgers put an end to starter Patrick Corbin’s job when their first 10 batters combined for seven hits — two by Betts — as well as managing a walk.

All this happened in just 45 pitches, which served only to get two outs.

Corbin (4-14) had the shortest start of his 11 years in the majors. He didn’t survive the first inning, something that had never happened to him in 250 starts.

Alex Vesia (3-0) got the win with a scoreless sixth inning.

For the Nationals, the Dominicans Víctor Robles 4-0, Juan Soto 3-0, Nelson Cruz 3-0, Maikel Franco 4-1. The Venezuelan Cesar Hernandez 3-1.

For the Dodgers, the Dominican Alberto 4-1 with a run scored and two RBIs.
