Dr. Ramón Tallaj, president of SOMOS Community Care, and the Honorable Consul General in New York, engineer Eligio Jáquez, received a bat signed and dedicated by Dominican baseball player Nelson Cruz, of the Washington Nationals.
Dr. Tallaj thanked the outstanding baseball player from Quisquey for delivering the signed bat and with special words to him, as a symbol of solidarity, friendship and brotherhood between the Latino community here in New York and in the Dominican Republic, as well as the treatment of the respected physician and Dominican athletes, so that this recognition will strengthen our fraternal relationships for life.
On his side, Consul Jáquez, stated that it is a pride to have in his hands a bat with the signature and dedication of the glorious and emblematic Cruz, one of the great Dominican baseball players since Osvaldo Virgil opened the door on September 23, 1956, as the first to play in the Major Leagues, with the New York Giants.
The bats were delivered by Daniel Reyes, president of the Dominican Sports Foundation in New York Inc., (FDDNY), on behalf of Nelson Cruz, who highlighted the important role that Tallaj and Jáquez play in the Dominican community in New York, in their messages written on each of the bats.
The activity was held at the consular headquarters, located at 1501 Broadway Avenue, 4th Floor, New York, with the participation of a large number of invited personalities and journalists.
