Do you remember the LG smartphone with extendable screen? here it is in video

LG has given up making smartphones. Years after ceasing to be a relevant brand, in terms of sales of this type of equipment, the brand announced in 2021 that it closed its mobile business chain globally.

One of the products being developed before the storm was a smartphone with a stretchable screen. Through a side menu or a slider on the screen, we would have the possibility of having a smartphone in a stretched format, closer to what a tablet is.

LG Rollable has been tested on video

The LG Rollable project was, of course, cancelled. But more than a year after that happened, a South Korean channel shared a video analysis of the smartphone. And this shows us that we lost with the end of the project.

Apparently, the YouTuber managed to rent the device to a subscriber to share this video. And from the opening of the box, LG wanted users to have a ‘sliding’ or ‘extensible’ feel.

The smartphone sports a 6.8-inch plastic OLED screen. But when it is extended, we can see that it is 7.4 inches. As mentioned, the screen can be slid to the side or using a specific menu.

It is claimed that the smartphone makes some noise and a vibration is felt when the panel is extended or retracted. What would you expect from this motorized system? For a first generation, the panel seems to be competent. But you can still see some “wrinkles”, especially in bright light.

A curious exercise that is done is to use the smartphone to push books while it is extended. It does this without any problems, but you get a warning every time there are objects that can interrupt the process.

Like folding smartphones, this would be a smartphone that we would like to see the light of day. Apparently LG will have sold some of the units of this team to employees. But we will only see it reach global markets if another brand puts a similar ideology into practice.
