Djokovic meets with history in New York

Although Novak Djokovic he has not played a game since his defeat in the Olympic Games against Pablo Carreño, the Serbian is the favorite to win the US Open.

A triumph in New York would not only make Djokovic the first man since Rod Laver (1969) to win the Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open in the same year, but it would make him the tennis player with the highest number of Grand Slams in history (21).

“The level of tennis went down as well because of exhaustion, you know, mentally and physically,” Djokovic said in Tokyo, where players had to deal with sweltering temperatures. Fortunately for Djokovic, his game is well suited to the hard courts of New York., his preferred surface, where he has shown his might from the baseline.

The Serbian last won the tournament in 2018 and in 2020 he was expelled for hitting a linesman with a ball.
