Disney +: Should we watch the animated series “What If …?”

Marvel’s new animated series “What If …?” just appeared on Disney + after being announced to great fanfare nearly two years ago. An anthology to discover intrigues parallel to the events seen on the big screen.

“Time and reality are interchangeable. Each universe is different, and each one of them is unique ”, proclaims The Guardian – nicknamed by actor Jeffrey Wright in the original version – a cosmic entity (we do not know which one at the moment, editor’s note) that has knowledge of creation of parallel universes. and claims to observe without ever intervening.

So much to say right away, Marvel fans will be delighted in front of this animated series whose visual quality is largely at the meeting point of declared ambitions. The idea of ”What if …?” is exploring what could have happened if certain characters, in a split second, had made a different decision than everyone else knows. An alternate reality at the heart of the 9 episodes that make up this first season where many Marvel superheroes will make an appearance, according to the trailer revealed in early July.

Not wanting to spoil fans’ delight with spoilers, thus leaving them the task of uncovering the episodes and intrigues as they come online, we’ll only mention the first episode here, already available on Disney +. Based on “Captain America: The First Avenger”, Agent Peggy Carter takes the lead role in this remake where the simple choice of a human being is capable of producing completely different results if it had been different from what was actually done.

Impossible for the moment to understand to what extent “What if …?” will play a pivotal role in the creation of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and its impact on the future of the franchise. But it is undeniable that Disney + and Marvel Studios have spared no means to offer a quality animated series whose new episodes will be available every Wednesday on the streaming platform.
