The Disney+ platform announced the launch of its new subscription plan with associated advertising. This is a new, more affordable subscription option aimed at attracting new subscribers, as Netflix did in October.
The new Disney+ subscription plan will have a monthly fee of $7.99🇧🇷 For now, it is only available in the US, but with the promise of expanding to other markets starting in 2023.
Disney + offers more than Netflix in its advertising plan
The new Disney + advertising plan implies some sacrifices compared to the Premium plan of the platform. Obviously, the main bet will be the presentation of ads between content.
These ads can vary between 15, 30 or 45 seconds in length. Even so, their sum will never exceed four minutes per hour, slightly below what is offered to Netflix subscribers.
The other big downside to the new Disney+ subscription plan has to do with the possibility of not being able to watch content offline. That is, it will not change the catalog of content offered, nor the quality of its reproduction.
In fact, it will continue to be possible to enjoy all the series and movies present in the Disney+ catalog with the best possible quality. We continue to play content up to 4K and with Dolby Vision.
Instead, Netflix limits its ad plan to playing content in 720p. In addition, around 10% of its content offer does not include this more accessible subscription plan.
Disney+ Premium Plan is now more expensive
With the announcement of the new Basic plan, Disney+ has increased the price of its Premium subscription. This modality will now have a monthly fee of US$10.99 compared to US$7.99 until now.
Yes, the new Disney+ ad-supported plan has the cost that the Premium plan requested until now. In other words, this new subscription plan is not actually a more affordable option, but rather a reduction in the platform’s offer.
In Portugal, a subscription to Disney+ currently costs €8.99 per month. Given what happened in the US, this is expected to be the asking amount for the new ad-supported plan and the Premium plan to be more expensive here as well.
