Does the truth about the mystery of Maddie’s disappearance lie in the waters of the Arade Dam (Portugal). The police have been surveying since the morning of Tuesday May 23 the banks of a reservoir in the south of the country. They examine the ground using probes, aided by tracking dogs and divers, over an area more than a kilometer long. “I cannot divulge the background, or why we are researching here, or what we hope to find”explains Christian Wolter, German prosecutor in charge of the case.
A suspect
The area has already been searched by the Portuguese police in 2008, without success. She is about fifty from the place where Madeleine McCann disappeared on May 3, 2007, while she was on vacation with her family. The case is extraordinary: 16 years of investigation and false leads. When the Portuguese police closed the case in 2008, British and then German investigators took over. A suspect was identified in 2020, and indicted in 2022. He lived a few kilometers from the family and went regularly to the Arade dam (Portugal).
