The Vice President of the Board, Juan García-Gallardo, met today with the delegation of the Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities (CERMI) from Castile and León and conveyed to them his “firm commitment” to this group, which, he emphasized, has already resulted in a nearly 50 percent increase in budget last year aimed at facilitating their job placement and employability. “We want to make life easier for those who have it the hardest,” he summarized.
In Castilla y León, the number of people of working age (between 16 and 64 years old) suffering from some form of disability, the board said in a statement, is 95,600 people. A group that has supported the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Employment with “particular vigor”, as highlighted by the Vice President of the Board of Directors, who highlighted the “collective effort” of the entire autonomous government and proposed that the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports also prepare specific performances.
In fact, the vice president told CERMI representatives that the budget for supporting the employment of people with disabilities increased by almost 50 percent last year compared to the previous year. Specifically, he pointed out that the General Directorate of Social Economy had invested almost 40 million euros in various aid lines.
However, in addition to these items, the Board highlighted another six million euros managed by the Public Employment Service of Castile and León (ECYL), which has introduced a special line of subsidies for local companies. Under the name ELEX, it promotes the employment of people with disabilities to carry out works and services of public interest and social benefit. Thanks to this, more than 1,000 people with disabilities have found work in local institutions throughout Castile and León.
